Notice for AKUites

All students from AKU who wish to help their juniors clear the rigorous AKU admission process are encouraged to submit a written piece about their AKU interview/test experience at theakuchallenge@gmail.com and akuhelp@outlook.com (this email is currently in use)! We are sure the readers (prospective AKUites) would love to have your contribution on this blog.

What Challenge?

Assalamualaikum everyone!

This Blog is an account of how I applied for admission to one of the most prestigious medical institutions in the world; The Aga Khan University (AKU). My story includes several tips, tricks and pieces of information that are sure to aid you on your way to success. Ill discuss my experiences applying to other great medical universities like DOW and Ziauddin as well.

AKU is notorious for their highly selective admission criteria. About 6000 excellent candidates apply to AKU every year. Each better than the rest in their own respect. And only 120 to 150 are selected for final admission. They’ve got to make sure only the best of the best make it to the prized institution which offers education similar to that which you find at top of the line medical universities abroad.

Its aspects like these about the AKU admission process which makes getting admission to AKU more like a challenge. Each candidate is a contestant competing to be one of those lucky few people who get a chance to complete MBBS at AKU.

Are YOU upto the Challenge?
Dont worry, if you need help, you are definitely in the right place.

At the end of the day, many deserving people don’t get into AKU. Rejection by AKU is really not the end of the world. Life has many more opportunities.  But its your job to always work hard, aim high, and make dua to Allah for the best.

  2. This blog is absolutely amazing, I wish you'd update this!!
I'm an A2 student in Islamabad and I've had 5A* 3As in O Levels and 4As and 1B in As. I'd REALLY like to get into AKU and found this blog really nice except that it's not been updated in 2014. Please do something about this ^^.

    2. is it necessary to have certificates of social activities and etc to qualify other than entry test ?

    3. Volunteer work, co-curricular activities and the likes are only sent in to AKU AFTER one clears the entry (aptitude) test.

  3. I would honestly say that this is a great blog, and after reading posts here, I really feel a bit more confident about how to approach the admission process. So, thankyou for this. Great work!
One question, though. I had a pathetic O'Level result (7As, 2Bs and a C, in 3 sittings). How much will this affect my chances? I did truly turn the corner in my A'Levels and am hoping for 3 A's (IA) , but will this compensate for the disastrous O'Levels result? (Obviously, I am assuming that my entry test and the subsequent interview will be above average)

    1. Well, one can't say anything for sure. That 1 C in O Levels is going to be problematic though.

  9. Hey. I just read one of the comments above where you said that a C in O' levels would be problematic. How problematic would that be exactly? I got 3 A*s 4As 3Bs and a C. The C was in Pak Studies. Do you think I should reappear?

  10. Hey.! Salam.!!!
Awesome blog! Thanks a lot for the help you all are giving us.! :-)

Wanted to ask you how big a problem would be if one didn't have any participation in extra-curricular activities?

    1. It is going to be quite problematic cause once you clear aku's test, extra curricular activities and your participation in them is what is going to get you in.students applying at aku are already smart they just need to filter out and choose the all rounders

  15. Very informative. I had a question I don't have many extra curricular activities. I am in AS and I'm trying to participate more but my college timings are such I feel my studies might be affected. Are ECAs really a deciding factor? I know that the test is most important but I would still like to know

  16. i am the student of pre medical fcs and my marks were 1010/1100 matriculation and 991/1100 in fsc how can a student of fsc can get into AKU because i took the test last year but i was not able to understand the question though i was good in studies of fsc plus i was not into any extra curricular studies during my school and college life so it seems quite impossible to get into aku for fsc student isnt it?

    1. Hey! Your academic scores are amazing. You don't have to be in sports to get in; I wasn't either yet I did. Your activities are also great. All you have to do now is pass the test to the best of your efforts and then during the interview demonstrate how you have utilized your time well to reach where you are and what these activities mean to you, etc.

I hope I helped, feel free to ask more questions when the time comes too.

  20. Assalam o Alaikum. This blog is very useful thank you Guys, I want to know that from where i can get Aga khan entry test past papers ?

    1. There aren't any official past papers of the AKU entry test. The closest you can get to practice questions is, according to my opinion, AKU-EB's past papers, which I have uploaded along with the syllabus here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B8zG6ETp7LjBcWZRSW5seE5wU1U

  28. For anyone who comes across this comment in 2021, I went through the admission process in 2020. Passed the test, failed the interview/extracurricular activities I guess. If you're in A levels/Fsc, FOCUS ON BOTH YOUR GRADES AND VOLUNTEER WORK. If you're an A levels student preparing for AKU test, just revise all your A level concepts and read Fsc books. Maybe register in topgrade for questions. If you're an Fsc student, read SAT books of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Have a good grasp on your concepts and you can pass. The math is easy if you've done O levels or even matric since it's general knowledge based. Know basic concepts like ratios etc. Make lots of Dua and you'll pass. If you do, this blog is filled with what to do next. Submit your Stage II form with all your good extracurriculars and have a solid prep for interview. Have someone conduct a mock interview for you. Know why AKU and which facilities interest you, what you'll bring to AKU and why a career in medicine. Also know basic interview questions like your strengths, weaknesses and regrets. And oh problems of Pakistan and problems with the medical field in specific. Remember to keep your routine good after you graduate high school and retain your good hobbies, they'll ask about that too. Do pray a lot. You need it. If it's in your destiny you'll get there. Even if you don't, lfe doesn't end there and a lot awaits you. Many other good universities like Shifa are there. Be grateful, humble, pious, consistent and hardworking and you'll do great in life, bud. If you found my comment helpful, just remember me in your prayers.
