Update 6/21/2018: I got in touch with some of my other classmates, one of them shared this folder, which contains resources for the test: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B_3ns-YNncCAS3BENmo2d2xGaDQ I urge you to jump into the "Read Me First" file and go through the minimum that is advised to cover from this folder. Also go through the "AKU ADVICE" file. (It also contains so-called past papers of AKU's test by Anees Hussain, but as mentioned in the Read Me First file, these are fake and unreliable. With that said, if you want to check them out go ahead and do so for practice's sake.)
--------------
Salam everyone!
By the time you're reading this, hopefully your final exams of A Level/FSc etc. have gone well, and you're probably now considering starting your preparation for the AKU MBBS aptitude test to be held on the 1st of July. I'm writing this in order to give you all some sense of direction.
First of all, like I mentioned in my previous post, pretty much all I have to say is contained in the guide I wrote and shared after my own admission last year. Here is the link again: https://goo.gl/Q4e8Wg
Please do go through this, especially the entire section on the entry test, which is very useful. However, I'll summarize the essentials in one place here.
Sample Test
Here is the sample AKU aptitude test paper, do go through this to get a very brief overview. https://www.aku.edu/admissions/Documents/sample-paper-MBBS.pdf
English Section
For the English section, go through this sample test here, for this most closely resembles the English section on the AKU test for the last few years after they updated the format: http://practice-test.englishlanguagetesting.co.uk/
They themselves actually state we can head on over here in their sample test I've provided above.
Biology/Chemistry/Physics
For A Level students who have taken the SAT 2 as well recently, are satisfied with their prep for it and their A Level concepts, it's best to grab FSc books and go through them as much as feasible with the syllabus AKU provided alongside them. Here is the syllabus: https://www.aku.edu/admissions/mbbs/Pages/curriculum.aspx
Focus on topics not found in A Level that overlap between SAT 2 and FSc and do them well via SAT 2 books and practice questions, and do the rest from the FSc books of course. You can also use AKU EB (AKU's own board for matric/FSc) past papers, which I've collected over here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8zG6ETp7LjBcWZRSW5seE5wU1U
A Level students who did not sit for the SAT 2 should focus on making sure their A Level concepts are strong and then move on to SAT 2 books and work especially on topics that aren't covered in A Level but do overlap between FSc and SAT 2. Do as many questions as you can from SAT 2 books as well as the official past papers of SAT 2. Once done, move on to spend the remainder of your time with FSc books as above. Again, use AKU EB past papers and syllabus too if you want to, both of which I've linked above.
FSc students on the other hand need not dive into A Level books. Make sure your FSc concepts are very, very strong. If you have taken the SAT 2 then it's great, but if not, SAT 2 is something you'll definitely have to use for your preparation as it will help cover syllabus with a focus on MCQs. Use the AKU EB curriculum and past papers I've linked above as well. You need to have an overall grasp over the FSc syllabus and be comfortable with attempting MCQ style questions that will check your clarity concerning the concepts.
In my personal experience, I did well in A Level and in the same period of time took the SAT 2, in which I performed well too. As an A Level student, I had a strong grasp on both A Level and SAT 2. However, I still felt that the test was definitely hard. Thus, in my opinion, the test was majorly FSc based. With that said, the SAT 2 is definitely something that is useful and an important bridge between the different syllabi, and most students who passed the test will agree that it's integral for your preparation. Furthermore, it's hard to be sure where the test will come from as there's difference of opinion from year to year.
For the SAT 2, here is a folder I made during my preparation for it, which might be helpful for you: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B8zG6ETp7LjBRi0yd0R6YjZiZ28
In summation, A Level students follow this order: A Level --> SAT 2 --> FSc.
FSc students follow this: FSc + SAT 2.
Mathematics Reasoning
The first thing I'd like to say is that it's not going to be any more complex than your usual Matric/O Level math, since Math is not even a requirement to be studied at FSc/A Level for medicine in Pakistan. With that said, it should be noted that questions aren't basic maths, they do have an element of problem solving/logical thinking involved, which is why it's titled "reasoning". The way I prepared for this was very briefly revise my O Level math concepts and ideas. FSc students should revise their Matric math, of course. After that, if you want to, you can try out the New SAT math questions (not SAT 2 math, I'm talking about SAT 1). Open up this link: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/practice/full-length-practice-tests There are 8 practice tests here under the "Resources" section. Click on "Show all" under each test, open the "SAT Practice Test (test number)" file and the "SAT Practice Test Answer Explanations" file, and then you can use the math questions for your practice (ignore the English parts).
More important than that however, I feel are the International Kangaroo Mathematics Contest (IKMC) questions, which was first recommended by one of the founding members of this blog in this post: http://theakuchallenge.blogspot.com/2012/11/aku-test-prep-guidelines-by-subject.html In fact, go through this entire post as I used this as well for my own preparation (and go through other posts in the past concerning the entry test too, minus the part on English as that section has been changed a lot over the years), although this is like 5 years old. For practicing the IKMC questions, open up this link http://ikmc.kangaroo.org.pk/download/3162/past-papers.html and practice questions of "class 9-10" of the different years. The answer keys are available there as well.
It's hard to pinpoint where exactly the questions come from, but basically they test your ability to think rationally. Do revise topics like probability etc.
Science Reasoning
In my experience this was basically a cluster of science questions from bio/chem/phy. If you really want to dive into "reasoning" then try out these ACT science questions: https://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/the-act/test-preparation/science-practice-test-questions.html However, like I've said in my guide, they're more difficult than what shows up on the AKU test. Honestly, some of the questions didn't even seem too "reasoning"-like to me. Just make sure your sense of science is strong and focus on your preparation for the other science section. Over the years of studying science, if you were someone who took active interest in your subject and tried to make sense of it, you should have developed the skills to solve these questions. Beyond that, do as many SAT 2 practice questions as you can.
Attempting Techniques and Other Tips
One important aspect is the negative marking. The pure sciences portion have a -0.25 mark for every question you get wrong. So you have to be very careful with that. Most of the times when you are confused between multiple options, it's best to leave a question unanswered, and I can tell you I left more than I guessed on. On the other hand, the science reasoning and mathematics reasoning sections don't have any negative marking, and in their case, feel free to guess. In fact, don't leave any question unanswered.
Another thing I'd like to talk about is timing. The English section has its own separate time and it's pretty sufficient. The science portion as a whole with the pure sciences and reasoning sections is all in one go. I personally went once through the pure sciences and eliminated questions that I found easy. After that, instead of wasting time on guessing questions, I spent a decent amount of time on maths and science reasoning because there's no negative marking there. I did all questions there without any pressure, and then spent the remaining time on the pure sciences questions. This helped because instead of wasting time on questions that have negative marking, it was better to make sure I answer each of the non-negative marking questions with full concentration as there I have a chance of getting a mark even if I guess without the risk of losing marks. Thus, do time everything carefully and keep your eyes on the clock.
Finally, do note that if you can't figure out the correct answer at first glance, try eliminating the wrong answers first as much as you can to narrow down your options. This is a very basic technique for attempting MCQs but I felt that it's important to reiterate it here.
Don't lose sleep over anything, make sure you take regular breaks, and best of luck! Feel free to comment any questions/concerns below, or email me at akuhelp@outlook.com.
(Do check out the comments below as I've addressed lots of things below.)

- Mohammad Yasrab, AKU Class of 2022.
Thanks, Mohammad Yasrab. This article is very helpful. Is SAT Barron's book preparation is enough? Or is it important to have a grasp over the Fsc books as well?
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, glad to be of help. I really wish I could give you a straight answer as I was looking for the same just a year ago, but it's hard to break it down like that. I personally did not use Barron's even for the SAT test itself, I used Kaplan's and the internet and the resources I've linked above, which I found to be very helpful. As far as I know Barron's is pretty detailed and it'll be easier to read than FSc books, so go through that first and do questions as much as you can. Even if the test is FSc based, there is obviously enough overlap to give you the chance to pass if your grasp on A Level and SAT 2 is strong. But I personally would say that try to cover the SAT 2 material strongly as soon as you can and have at least some days left for skimming over FSc books if nothing else, just to be on the safe side. All the best!
Deletekia har subject ko alag alag pass karna hota hai yeh phir overall percentage matter karte hai?
DeleteEnglish separate houga and science paper ka alag total houga. Overall hi matter karta hai. English alaeda se pass, and sciences as a whole alaeda se pass, not individually bio chem mai pass.
DeleteSuch a comprehensive and convenient guide! Hats off!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the appreciation. Glad to be of help. :)

Hello!
ReplyDeleteWhere i can find the marking key of the aku-eb pastpapers which you have posted here ?
Unfortunately I don't have access to any such marking keys. So just tally the questioons with FSc books or Google around to figure out the right answers.
DeleteI'm preapring for the test but I'm afraid of my A-levels results.can you help me that as there any chance to get in by performing well in the test?& secondly can you tell me about the number of MCQ'S in each section of each subject & about the total marks of the test and the total given time for it?and 3rdly I'm preparing phy, bio, chem from SAT 2 books and for math I'm gonna try matric or O level math but I'm confused about English portion can you help by telling that for english which topics or stuff i have to go through?Do reply ....
ReplyDeleteHmm based on what I know and my experience, passing the test really matters and your percentage itself won't really have a huge impact on your chances, positive or negative. But of course you should aim as high as you can and hope for the best.
DeleteThere are 60 MCQs in the English paper and 120 MCQs in the science paper. Of the 120 MCQs of the science paper, there are 60 MCQs of pure sciences (20 physics, 20 biology, 20 chemistry), 30 MCQs of math reasoning, and 30 MCQs of science reasoning. You have to meet the minimum passing percentage of the English and science paper separately. Each correct answer = 1 mark. Leaving a question unanswered = 0 marks. And an incorrect answer is also = 0 marks EXCEPT in the biology, chemistry, and physics sections in which an incorrect answer = -0.25 marks.
For English just go through the test I gave above and if you're able to do decently on it then you should be able to pass the English test. It doesn't need any special preparation as it is very easy now. You just need to have a basic sense of English, and based on your comment I can tell that you possess that, so focus on the sciences. The English portion had a 55% pass percentage and honestly people easily crossed 90%.
Best of luck!!! Feel free to ask more.
can i get a full sample paper of aptitude of aku?
DeleteThe sample paper I've linked above is the only one there is.
DeleteI mistakenly sent you a message in email.can you please check it there and answer me here.As It's lengthy enough i can't type it again so can i get the favour.
ReplyDeleteI replied to all emails in my inbox so let me know if you got it as I don't know which one was yours. You can also find it in your sent items of your email. Copy and paste it from there.
DeleteI didn't get my email answered.so typing it here again.
ReplyDelete1=So it means total marks are 180 right??
2=& you forgot to tell me about the total given time for the test.so kindly mention that and also do mention that time is combinely given for both the papers or separately as you said before that English and science subjects have separate papers.3= Secondly what i got from the post is there's only negative marking in the phy, chem, bio portions not in the English and reasoning part.is it like this?
4=At last is it necessary to go through the whole of the SAT 2 books for the test preparation in order to clear the test?or if your concepts are good, just revising the topics you are weak in would be enough?
5=Also give me some tips and advices for math portion as i didn't take math in my A-levels & don't know what to do with this portion .if you can provide any help would be greatful to you.
6=& yes i forgot about the calculator. Are we allowed to use it in the test?if yes it's fine and if not then in all the portions of the test ,it will not be allowed or in few ?
》Kindly answer my all queries from top to bottom so that you don'miss any question of mine.
I'm asking alot sorry for that but i have so many questions about the Aku test which i want to clear & here is someone to clear them all.
1. Yeah, but treat it like 120 and 60 cause they're both considered separate. 120 for science and 60 for English.
Delete2. Total time is also in the sample test, I suggest you go through the file. It says there that English is 1 hour and science paper is 2 hours 15 mins. There is like a 15 or so minutes long break in between them.
3. Yes true, negative marking in only bio chem and phy.
4. Hmmm I THINK it's good to revise topics you're weak at and then do as many questions as you can to make sure the ones you think you're good at are secure too.
5. I didn't take math at A level either, all I did was revise O level math concepts, which didn't take long as math is a subject like that, once you learn the skill it's easy to go back to it. Then I did some SAT questions of the math section (NOT the SAT Math subject test, I'm talking about the regular SAT also known as SAT 1), and did some kangaroo quiz questions as I described above.
6. No calculators at all haha.
No worries at all feel free to ask more questions. Best of luck!!
Can u please tell me if we are supposed to pass the science part as a whole?
ReplyDeleteYes as a whole.
DeleteThank you so much for every bit of information.it's really helpful & if you can give me one of your email address for g.mail so would be glad as I'm gonna deactivate my whatsapp and other sites so won't be able to excess this post or link so if you give me I'm gonna ask my queries direcrly whenever i feel like i need to ...and lastly when roll numbers are send by Aku?it's 17th june and i didn't recieve my roll number slip till now.
ReplyDeleteNo problem at all! You can email me at akuhelp@outlook.com
DeleteConcerning the roll numbers, I think you should have received it by now. Contact them and ask them.
Here's the contact info for the registrar's office:
Telephone: +92 21 3493 0051
Email: mbbs.query@aku.edu
from where can i get the full aptitude test sample paper of aku?
DeleteHello!
ReplyDeleteIs there any negative marking in English portion?
Nope. Negative marking only exists in the biology, chemistry, and physics sections of the science test. There is no negative marking in the entire English test nor is there any negative marking in the math reasoning and science reasoning sections of the science test. I advise you to go through the sample paper I linked above, everything's clarified in that file.
DeleteThank you for that brilliantly amazing and comprehensive guide. It's not as ordinary as those other videos are. I'm also prepareing for the AGA KHAN test. I love reading and writing that's what I'm involved more. I did some poetry also. I'm also involved in classical music.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your help and this amazing experience you shared with us
The only confusion I have is I bought SAT 1 subeject test mathematics book and think that should I prepare mathematical reasoning part from this book because I did my FSC in pre-med.
Really happy to be of help. :) Thank you for taking out the time of going through the guide.
DeleteHmm wait, you mean the SAT Subject Test math or the SAT 1 math?
Waiting for your reply......
DeleteIt's SAT subject test: mathematics level 1
ReplyDeleteYou recieved your admit card for the test??
DeleteYeap. Test is on 1 July I have nearly prepared everything just mathematics part is remaining.....
DeleteWhen you recieved??i didn't recieve mine and I'm worried now
DeleteI received it on 25 ramazan. Email them on website you'll come to know .
DeleteHmm no need for subject test SAT honestly I don't think anyone I've talked to used that. It's math "reasoning" so not too many technicalities as far as I recall. So don't stress yourself with SAT subject test books. But if you want just give it a day at max.
DeleteThe email is in guide which yusrab as written..
ReplyDelete.
Okies....& btw Yusrab told me about SAT 1 math.He said it's best to revise your o levels/matric concepts and then practice SAT 1 math questions.Maybe this provides any help to you.
DeleteIs calculator allowed ?
ReplyDeleteNope.
DeleteWAS TIME MANAGEMENT A PROBLEM IN THE SCIENCES SECTION
ReplyDeleteHmm not much for me personally but it was a tight situation. You shouldn't be wasting any minute that's for sure.
DeleteSalam! What is the pass percentage for math and sci. reasoning portions? Also you always mention that passing perc. For phy chem bio together is 65% so do you have to pass in the eng math and sci reasoning portion individualy aswell.Kindly correct my concept where ever it seems wrong.
ReplyDeleteMath reasoning + science reasoning + bio + chem + phy = the science paper = 64% pass percentage last year.
DeleteEnglish = English paper = 55% pass percentage last year.
Thus, English is one separate paper, while the rest are all one whole paper which you have to pass as a whole.
Does aku papers require deep information.?
ReplyDeleteIt depends on what you consider "deep information" to be. Can you elaborate?
DeleteIs it neccessary to study SAT 1 and SAT? Is matric and 1st year concepts are not much to pass it...?
ReplyDeleteFor sciences matric and 1st year concepts are probably not enough to pass it since you aren't even sure whether you will be able to solve all of questions. It is based on HSSC as a whole And SAT Subject Tests are also very helpful.
DeleteAsalam-waliqum!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to ask that if u could specifically tell me which chapters or topics do i do from NEW SAT for math... cuz it is quite confusing and not to forget A-LOT!
Hmm I can't exactly pinpoint chapters like this. I suggest focusing more on those involving probabilities and stats etc since they have elements of reasoning in them. But it's not strictly New SAT. I just referenced that for practice. Do the Kangaroo quiz questions as well and revise your matric/O Level math skills.
DeleteOk so I'm having trouble memorizing the names of scientists and codons for amino acids and pretty much everything that's in the data booklet for chem. Is that a requirement? Many ppl who did fsc often tell me that all this is supposed to be learned to get one thru fsc and mcat. Is this the case with the aku test too? I mean no one can be certain about what might show up this time but did any such thing come up last time?
ReplyDeleteYeah no need to bother with scientist names for AKU test. MCAT etc Mai bhi honestly I don't recall that stuff showing up. But yes bond energies karlo that will be helpful. I do remember somethng related to Carbon's bond energies showing up. I recommend spending a day on learning these things.
DeleteSalaam, Bhai! Do you have any tips for last minute revision? I haven't prepared anything, and at this point I'm just betting on the prep I did last year for both SAT 1 and 2. I'm skimming through certain topics at the most. What sort of Physics formulae should I be memorizing? And are the MCQ's like the ones we get in A Levels???
ReplyDeleteHmm.. I think at least do memorize the formulas given at the start of our Physics papers. Do keep skimming through topics as much as you can. Don't forget to revise the topics on lenses and optics etc. The MCQs are not like A Level exactly but they are pretty decent as mcqs. Compared to the ones you find in the local Punjab MDCAT for example, AKU mcqs are much better, not based on some ridiculous scientist names or dates etc. Do memorize and revise values of constants of Physics and Chemistry too.
Deletefrom where can i get full sample paper of aptitude test of aku?
ReplyDeleteThe only sample paper officially provided is the one above.
DeleteWell I just went through 2nd year FSc Physics and its nothing like what I read in the SAT books. It's wayyy more extensive with the logic gates and RLC circuits and tonnes of formulas I've never even heard of. So why is SAT recommended for getting through the test?
ReplyDeleteI know I'm replying late but this is for anybody reading in the future. The main argument was that SAT is a good bridge between A Level and FSc and that with the short amount of time there is, doing SAT in depth properly with A Level is the least one can do. This ties in witht he fact that you only have to "pass" the test. So for passing it has been a given that A Level and SAT on their own is like a bare minimum. For good marks of course FSc is required. Also, there seems to be a shift in the content of AKU's tests. Posts on this blog back 5 years ago seemed to emphasize that SAT 2 is enough but last year in my experience and this year as far as I've heard, it seems that FSc based questions have increased. So now I feel it's necessary to go through A Level, SAT 2, and then jump onto FSc and cover it as much as possible too.

ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteSo first of all thank you for all the helping material you've provided us for the AKU test, I mean its really been quite helpful.
Now I just wanna ask you a question (which may sound a little bit ridiculous to you)......well I've wrote the aptitude test yesterday....and the english portion was just too easy.....I even went through fine in bio, chem and physics, and also in science reasoning.....but as far as I remember I almost guessed 10-12 mcqs in maths.......so is there a chance that I'll be short listed for interview?
Same here....the math portion went so bad.
DeleteI'm really happy to be of help. I'm glad most of your test went well. It's hard to predict of course but yes depending on how well you did on other sections and if you get like half of your guesses right in the math section then perhaps there i a chance that you'll clear it.
DeleteI wish you both the best.
DeleteHI. So i just sat for the AKU entrance test this year. i sadly left 10-12 mcqs in the maths section as well:( just want to know how did it turn out for u. im so scared
DeleteTime given was also not adequate......in the sample paper they mentioned 2 hours and 15 min for the sciences portion but on the test day they only gave 2 hours for it.......even though some of us complained but they did not give a satisfactory answer to this un-informed change
ReplyDeleteYes I heard about this and it's unfortunate actually. This shouldn't have happened.
DeleteAsSalaamOAlaikum, Bhai! I gave the exam and I honestly don't know how it went. Like, the English portion was really easy, and I actually had fun doing the reasoning sections. Buuuuuut...I messed up big time in the sciences. I think I guessed like half the stuff I did. Was it the same with you or anyone you know? And when is the result released? I'm sorry I have so many questions; the anxiety is just eating at me.
ReplyDeleteWalaikumassalam! I felt I messed up in the sciences too. Just try to relax now as you have done what you could have and just hope and pray for the best. Result should be released towards end of July or start of August if I'm guessing correctly. If you get selected it will be posted to you, and if I'm not wrong, if you don't get selected it won't be posted but you will be able to access it online on the same portal that you used for the initial application (those who get selected can see their score too).
DeleteAny idea when the test results will be shown it's almost the end of July?Any one with current news.
ReplyDeleteDid everyone had received email of aku that results are postponed due to Supreme court Decision For private medical universities.???
ReplyDeleteYes i did yesterday on 31st july.
DeleteIt's the first time something significant like this has happened in a while at least. I hope everything works out well for all of you.
Deletewhen will the result of aku aptitude test be announced??
ReplyDeleteYou recieved any email?
Deleteno i havent received an email yet
DeleteThen contact them and ask them beacuse we receieved a mail that due to court orders on tution fees of private medical colleges the admissions are delayed & if you want number .i can send you.
Deletelet me check my email again then i ll inform you...
Deletei havent received
DeleteAcha! This is the number 02133104410 ask them.
ReplyDeleteok thankyou
DeleteAoA. How important would you say is your A Levels result to your application? Or, given AKU's holistic approach, should that vary from applicant to applicant?
ReplyDeleteplz i need syllabus of 2019 of aku for mbbs entry test.
ReplyDeleteIt's not out yet. But I'm sure it'll be similar to the current one.
DeleteFrom which institute you have prepared?
ReplyDeleteAssalamoalikum Yasrab, first of all dude you really have put in alooooooooooooot of efforts in all this and this has surely helped many students may ALLAH bless you for that <3
ReplyDeleteI am a candidate sitting in the test in 2019 I gave the test this year and well didnt clear it owing to my lack of studies and stuff, I regret that all now...
Can you please send me some links to the A-Level books or material that could help me I find the A-Levels book really hard ...
plussss
my O'level grades arent really good ... will that matter ?? :((
lastly should I give SAT 1 or SAT 2 ??
Thanks <3
