The AKU Challenge Legacy

Hey guys!

A lot has changed with regards to AKU admissions and the way to go about them.

This blog was originally created by Sohaib Qadri (who has graduated from AKU by now) and was then run by me (Lubaina Ehsan). But, I am going to be graduating soon. So, we have brought in new blood to handle and update this blog from now on.

This blog post is to welcome Mohammad Yasrab.
He's dedicated towards helping out those who are looking for a place to answer their queries regarding the AKU admission process.

Power to you, Yasrab!
Take good care of this blog.

    1. AKU has a need blind admissions policy, which means that your chances of getting into it are not dependent upon your financial situation. Once you get admission, they offer many typesof financial assistance in the form of grants, loans, and scholarships. See here for more details: https://www.aku.edu/admissions/fees-and-funding/Pages/financial-assistance-pk.aspx

    1. Walaikumassalam. Unfortunately, AKU does not release official past papers. So there's no way to get access to them. On the bright side, the fact that you only have to reach a minimum pass percentage (which is usually around 65%) means that it's not an issue that you don't have access to past papers.

    2. How important are extra curricular activities in getting you through the admission? Do you really need to do any if them?

    3. AKU is looking for well rounded individuals so yes they do aid you in that sense. However, they aren't simply going to go for someone who has the most extra curriculars. What they want to see is how you utilized your time apart from studying, what you achieved or aspired to achieve, what talents you nurtured within yourself and how you went on about to do something about them. It's not the amount nor the exact magnitude of what you're doing that matters, but what that means to you, how it affected your life, how you developed it over the years, and so on. So yes, don't just study, take out time to engage in activities for your own sake and if you can manage to win something than that's a plus too. It also comes down to how you present yourself in the interview. You may mention a ton of achievements on the Stage II form after the test but if you can't bring them up in a relevant context, then I think that's a giveaway that those activities don't really matter to you and are just there for the sake of it. I hope this makes sense. Of course, this is my opinion based on my experience.

    1. SAT 2 books in my opinion will be helpful especially for biology. I went through Kaplan books for a quick review of topics that weren't covered in A level. You can find more details of test prepation in the guide I wrote over here: https://goo.gl/Q4e8Wg

  4. AKU website says it needs a minimum of 3Bs. So if a candidate got 3Bs has ecas in a manner that has shaped them over the years, is it possible they'll be rejected over their grades? I've heard your interview gets cancelled or something. Please help.

    1. Hmm I haven't heard anything like that. And there are certainly students here who do have 3 Bs so that should mean that they won't simply reject you based on having 3 Bs when they themselves are saying that having 3 Bs makes you eligible. I hope this helps. Give it your best shot with everything that you have to offer. Best of luck!
